KitchenAid’s 2025 Color of the Year Is Bright and Smooth
And it’s very appropriate for baking.

You’ve heard the expression “butter makes everything better,” which is generally true when you add it to anything you might sear, sauté or bake. But it might also be true for the tools you use for cooking, too. At least, that’s what KitchenAid is suggesting with its brand new Color of the Year for 2025, Butter.
“For this year’s color, we were driven by tapping into comfort and nostalgia, and the color yellow has the ability to transport you back in time, evoking some of the warmest memories,” Brittni Pertijs, Design Manager: Color, Material & Finish at KitchenAid parent company Whirlpool, said. “The color might remind people of kitchens from the 1950s or 1960s that were decorated with a similar soft yellow color. While it echoes past kitchens, Butter feels fresh and modern, leaning into present-day design trends. It does not feel like a particularly niche color, but instead a classic neutral that will last over the years.”

Though the Color of the Year is meant to reflect current trends, the process of choosing Butter was three years in the making and was inspired, in part, by the popularity of another food-related yellow, mustard, gaining popularity in 2019.
While KitchenAid has long offered mixers in varied colors, it has named an official new Color of the Year since 2018. Previous culinary-inspired colors have included Honey, Beetroot, Hibiscus, and last year’s Blue Salt, with the inaugural color Bird of Paradise and second-year choice Kyoto Glow rounding out the (non-edible) picks.
The KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer in Butter will be available starting February 6 and retails for $499.99.
If this mixer’s bright, retro pop of yellow has you rethinking whether it will match your kitchen’s color scheme, it might be a better fit than you think. A silky-soft yellow can bring out the warmth of natural woods, or contrast bold, dark, and dramatic statement colors like navy, slate and black.

Butter also plays well with muted greens and earth tones, or it can add additional interest to already colorful kitchens with light and airy pinks and blues.

And if KitchenAid’s butter-colored mixer has you craving a complete warm and cheery makeover, don’t think you have to start sledgehammering your countertops or ripping down your backsplash. A simple and practical way to take your kitchen in a whole new design direction is to paint your kitchen cabinets. Just choose a color and get ready for an near-instant upgrade.
On a similarly smooth and delicious note, Pantone recently announced its color of the year as the rich, chocolatey Mocha Mousse. We’re not sure how well it would complement Butter, but it does sound like we’re in for a tasty 2025 when it comes to interior design.
