There’s a Waterfall in the Middle of the City

Located in the heart of the city, Falls Park is home to a cascading waterfall, and it’s where the city gets its name from. The 128-acre park has picnic shelters, a five-story observation tower, a playground, and a walking path. The park is also home to some of the city’s oldest buildings, including the Stockyards AG, a horse barn that dates back to the late 1800s. The barn was completely restored, and now visitors can visit it and see exhibits that tell the story of North Dakota’s agricultural industry.

The Home of Lions, Tigers, and Bears

The Great Plains Zoo began with Senator Richard F. Pettigrew's private collection in the 1880s, which included a few animals for viewing in local Sioux Falls parks. Today, the 45-acre park has hundreds of animals from six continents divided into the North America, African Savannah, and Asian Cats exhibits. Most displays are open year-round, and kids can also enjoy the splash pad, which is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
