Say Hello to the Cutest Wet Mop You've Ever Seen: Clorox x Staff The Mop
Clorox and functional home goods brand, Staff, teamed up to create a beautiful, effective mop that you might actually want to leave on display.
Think about the items that fill your home. While furniture and decor are pretty subjective depending on your design preferences, some objects and products, like plungers and mops, are commonplace in every home. Considering how ubiquitous these household items are, you'd think that someone would have thought up a more eye-catching design. Thankfully, now, they have.
Enter: The Staff x Clorox Mop. The colorful acrylic mop is designed to be an effective cleaning tool, as well as an artistic statement in any home. Genius, no? To find out if it delivers more than just a playful style statement, we put it to the test.
First: What is Staff?
Staff is a functional home goods brand rooted in style. It was born during the pandemic, when founder, Charlie Weisman, was looking for ways to brighten his small New York City apartment, not to mention his days in isolation. Now, Staff offers a variety of home items, including pretty plungers, toilet brushes, hangers, oven mitts and more.
Staff x Clorox The Mop Review
The latest item to join the Staff family is The Mop. Made in collaboration with Clorox, The Mop features three translucent acrylic segments (all in different colors) that screw together to create a truly head-turning cleaning accessory. The question is: Does The Mop bring more than just good looks to the table (er, floor)?
The Handle
The handle on The Mop is slim and easy to grip. Best of all, it's nearly 50 inches long, which makes maneuvering it especially easy.
My one concern with the handle on The Mop is that it's acrylic. While a beautiful design choice, acrylic can crack if dropped. Thankfully, Staff thought of this and topped off The Mop with a little rubber hat and the brand's iconic smiley face logo. While the top hat gives The Mop undeniable quirkiness, it also serves a function, as the brim acts as a bumper should The Mop topple over and crash into the floor. (Smart design!)

The Serrated Tabs + Wet Mopping Cloths
The Mop comes with a variety of Clorox Wet Mopping Cloths — I particularly enjoy the coconut scent. The cloths are designed to hug the base of the rectangular mop, which is crafted with four serrated tabs to lock them in place. While the tabs are ideal in thought, in practice they're not 100 percent functional because the tabs don't click into place as easily when the cloths are sandwiched in between them and the base. Still, if you apply enough pressure, you can secure them; if you don't, though, they'll come undone mid-mop and you'll have to readjust, which happened to me during my initial trial run.
Serrated Tabs Rating: 6.5/10
As for the Mopping Cloths, they're textured and highly soaked, so they work well to remove dirt, dust and debris from hard floor surfaces. That said, I'd almost say that they're over-soaked, as when I mopped my ceramic tile kitchen, liquid from the cloths pooled into the grout lines and I had to go back and move The Mop from side to side to soak it up. That said, this process forced me to spend a few more seconds mopping my kitchen/dining area, which in turn likely made me do a better, more thorough job, so it's not the worst thing in the world.
Mopping Cloths Rating: 7/10
The Lay-Flat Design
The Mop is designed to lay completely flat. As such, if you have to mop beneath a piece of low furniture, it's not a total hassle. For example, I have a bar cart in my dining area that has an ultra-low bottom shelf, mere inches off the ground. With The Mop, though, I don't have to carefully move the well-stocked console — instead, I can bend down and lay it flat to easily clean beneath it.
The only issue I have with the extra-mobile lay-flat hinge is that while mopping upright, the rectangular base sometimes wants to flip flat backward if you go too fast. But again, that tidbit just reminds me not to rush the process, which makes for a deeper, more effective clean overall.
Lay-Flat Design Rating: 9/10
The Takeaway
If you're looking for a wet mop that works well to clean hardwood floors, laminate and all kinds of tile — and particularly one that looks beautiful in the process — The Mop from Staff and Clorox is well worth $48. And on that note, if you're in the market for a unique housewarming gift, The Mop is a worthy (not to mention kitschy) option.
