What makes hotel towels so good? For starters, it's laundry you didn't do or have to fold. But, like sheets or bespoke china patterns, there's something incredibly luxurious about fancy hotel towels. Some designer hotels love the same linen brands we do, and you can snag the exact same towels, bath mats and even robes that boutique hotels use. Even better: They're more affordable than you think! Some items are under $50 on Amazon. We're unraveling the mystery of hotel bath linens. Read on to learn what materials and designs to look for and which brands to consider when shopping for hotel-worthy bath linens.

Hotels Love Turkish Cotton Bath Linens

Gather Greene

Have you ever noticed how soft and buttery hotel towels feel? It's by design. The secret is Turkish cotton. Hoteliers love Turkish cotton because it's super dense, fluffy and incredibly durable. These towels actually get softer over time with every wash and without breaking down in fluffiness, and you can snag the same towel magic at home. Boutique hotels across the country, from the Vandyke Bed & Beverage in Nashville to the Gather Greene resort in Upstate New York, use Brooklinen's Super-Plush towels made from 100-percent Turkish cotton. We're already big fans of these towels and recommend them in our towel shopping guide!

"We chose the super-plush towels to emphasize the experience of comfort while staying at Gather Greene," said co-owners and co-designers Jackie and Amna. "Our cabins are in the woods and surrounded by nature, but we strive to create an environment inside of the cabins that feels a bit luxurious and pampers our guests. We love the Turkish cotton because it is super soft but also extremely absorbent. This combo makes for a very lovely experience when you're just getting out of the shower!"

Black Prong, an equestrian resort in North Central Florida, went all in on Quince's Turkish cotton. (And we love that the price is about 40 percent less than Brooklinen.) The resort uses Quince Turkish Ultra Plush towels, washcloths, hand towels and bath mats.

But Turkish cotton doesn't always mean super-plush. Both New Orleans boutique hotels Columns and their new sister property, Hotel Henrietta, use Parachute's Classic Turkish Cotton Towels. And hotels, from the Cuyama Buckhorn in New Cuyama, California to the Gateway Lodge in Cook Forest, Pennsylvania, love Brooklinen's classic towels, too. They're made from the same ultra-soft Turkish cotton, but they're not as heavy as the thicker super-plush version.

However, Cuyama Buckhorn does stock each room with Brooklinen's super-plush Turkish cotton robes. Yep, the exact same robes you can buy from Brooklinen's website. Chart House Inn in Newport, Rhode Island uses the super-plush robes, too.

Another hotel favorite and leader in Turkish cotton bath linens is The Turkish Towel Co. Maison de la Luz, a boutique hotel in New Orleans, already caught our eye for its authentic French-style architecture and interior design, and if you visit, you'll find organic Turkish Towel Co. towels and bath mats in the luxurious bathrooms.

Hotels Love Airy, Cloud Vibes

While terry, where the threads form short little loops, is the most common towel style, Turkish cotton can be used in other towel styles, too, such as ribbed or waffle. For robes, Maison de la Luz uses this waffle-style robe, which you can order on Amazon for under $50!

The Heights House Hotel in Raleigh, North Carolina uses the Brooklinen Turkish cotton waffle robe (one of our favorite robes, too!) for a spa-style experience. “Turkish cotton is the crème de la crème of cotton," says owner Sarah Shepherd. "It's very lightweight as well as smoother and stronger than other cotton. When weaved into the Brooklinen waffle robe it makes the perfect combination, incredibly absorbent, soft and fast-drying."

The Ingalls, Proper Hotels

All Proper Hotels have a version of Parachute's Cloud Cotton Robe, also one of our all-time favorite robes. Kelly Wearstler, the designer behind the Proper Hotels, worked with Parachute on the specific robe, which is available at the hotels in an exclusive, crisp white — a colorway not available to the public.

Hotels Love an Embroidered Edge

Like with fancy hotel sheets, an embroidered edge is a subtle detail that adds a whole lot of luxury, and many hoteliers use towels with embroidered edges, too. Deer Path Inn outside of Chicago uses luxury linen brand Frette towels (which are also used by the new Disney Wish cruise ship), especially Frette towels with an embroidered line. It's white on white, but the addition of these lines elevates the whole towel, and the towels need to be chic in the hotel's gorgeous, spa-style bathrooms. Deer Path also uses Frette robes, but these babies are not cheap at a whopping $400+. However, you can snag the towels for under $100.
