Homeowner Bhavana Patel went back and forth about whether to get real marble in her newly renovated kitchen. Her family loves making dishes that reflect their Indian roots, and she worried about staining it. They decided to go with marble but had it sealed to be safe. When retirees Colleen and Larry Soukup moved to a house on Lake Josephine in Minnesota, they tapped designer Lucy Penfield to help them create a fun space for their grandkids to visit. “Her style is more colorful than mine, and I knew she’d break me out of my comfort zone,” says Colleen. Starting with the kitchen, Lucy introduced light wood tones and woven textures into their mostly white space, then added pops of blue and playful pink accents.
