Add whimsy and cheer to your holiday decor by creating no-sew, larger-than-life gnomes out of tomato cages.

If you're looking for a whimsical addition to your holiday decor, there's no place like gnome. We made our gnome doppelgängers using a tomato cage and some fabric. It's so easy to recreate at home you'll want to make a gnome decoration for every season! This is a great project for upcycling worn tomato cages, just make sure to give them a good scrub before you begin.

Create Body & Beard
Turn the tomato cage upside down and loosely wrap the bottom two-thirds of the tomato cage with a large piece of plaid fabric — or upcycle an old blanket or sweater (Image 1). Cut the fabric to size leaving a two-inch overlap in the back. Fold over the seam of the overlapping fabric and hot glue closed and onto the cage (Image 2). To create the beard, cut a long and narrow triangle out of faux fur. Then, hot glue the fur to the tomato cage about a foot down from the top (Image 3).

Create Hat
Gather the top spokes of the tomato cage together and wrap closed with floral wire (Image 1). Next, cut a piece of felt into an extra-large triangle. To create a lip on the hat, fold the bottom of the triangle twice and hot glue in place (Image 2). Wrap the fabric around the top of the tomato cage, letting the lip hang over the top of the beard, and hot glue the pieces together in the back, overlapping the felt for a clean seam (Image 3).

Add Flourishes & Display
To create the nose, hot glue a large wooden bead where the hat and beard meet (Image 1). Then, glue a sprig of faux evergreen or holly inside the lip of the hat for a little extra Christmas cheer (Image 2). Display your festive creations anywhere that could use a boost of holiday spirit, like the front porch (Image 3).
