When interior designer Amanda Lindroth was tasked with redesigning this 1960s Bahamas vacation home, she wanted to bring a vintage look back into the design of the space, while also giving a nod to its historic past. The home was once owned by Jack Heinz of the ketchup brand, and visited by friends of the family, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and her sister Lee Radziwill, as a wintertime vacation getaway.

The three-story home was first gutted and rebuilt as a more modernized vacation villa. One of the elements added during the renovation is the coral stone that can be seen on the home’s exterior and on the walls of the entryway. The stone gives the home a tropical look and also provides a neutral backdrop for the colorful furnishings Lindroth incorporated into the design.

Located on the 12th hole of the Lyford Cay Golf Course, Lindroth designed several outdoor spaces for homeowners to enjoy the course and sea views. The outdoor patio furniture has a vintage feel that “would have been the same during the Jackie O visits,” Lindroth explains. While the furniture has a distinct vintage look, it also perfectly complements the home’s pretty pink exterior.

The colorful furnishings don’t stop at the exterior. The bedrooms and living spaces are filled with color, bringing a cheerful and tropical vibe throughout. Natural tones, seen in the rattan furniture and beige wall coverings, pair perfectly with the pops of color.

Lindroth also incorporated photographs from the 1960s into the design, shot by Slim Aarons while the home was owned by the Heinz family. These photographs keep the history of the home on display, and create excellent conversation pieces.

Not only is this vacation home a visual masterpiece, it also makes for a great entertaining space. The home has five bedrooms, three levels of patio space and an extraordinary swimming pool. Amanda Lindroth explains that the pool wraps around the home and guests can jump in straight from two of the bedrooms. “There is even a bridge over the pool where a table can be set for lunches or candlelight dinners,” she says.
This Bahamas vacation home has a remarkable past, and designer Amanda Lindroth made sure to capture that in the interior design of the space. Beautiful, functional and relaxing, this home has it all, and is a modernized piece of history.
