Before and After: Dave and Jenny Marrs' Emotional Journey from Nursery to Primary Suite
In the Season 5 finale, Jenny and Dave took on their most emotional renovation yet — renovating their son's nursery.
Dave and Jenny Marrs are so busy renovating homes on their show Fixer to Fabulous, they haven’t had the time or energy to focus on updating their own home in years. But when the opportunity presented itself to give their Bentonville, Arkansas, home a major renovation of its own before filming wrapped on Season 5, they jumped at the chance — into a much more emotional situation than they were expecting.
How it Started
The Marrs’ duo hadn’t originally planned on renovating their home while the cameras rolled. But when filming was extended, they “made a quick decision to squeeze our remodel in before the end of the year so that we could be settled before Christmas,” Jenny wrote in an Instagram post.
“[W]e jumped right in before I had time to process all of the changes in store,” she continued. “As we started making plans and then demoing spaces, my emotions caught up with me. My babies have been raised in this house and the memories we have made within these walls are deep treasures.”
The Primary Suite
The biggest transformation happened in the primary suite. Jenny and Dave moved their primary bedroom to Luke’s old bedroom, which had also previously been Charlotte and Sylvie’s nursery before it was Luke’s. Jenny and Dave also added a sitting room where the former playroom was and created a new main bathroom by expanding it into Luke’s former closet.
They've always been all about creating happiness, but this is the first time the duo is actively working to improve a family’s investment. “Helping families has always been our No. 1 goal and motivator,” Jonathan says. “This was a great opportunity to reach out to people who are putting themselves out there and trying to make money for their families.”
“I didn’t realize how emotional this process would be but, as with all things in life, I just had to walk through the grief of what was and embrace the beauty of what is,” Jenny wrote in another Instagram post. “I’m immensely grateful for this new space and absolutely love beginning and ending my day surrounded by so much beauty. I’ve waited 10 years to remodel our bedroom and bathroom and I specifically chose ALL of my very favorite things for the design.”
Before and After the Renovation
For the new main bedroom, Jenny and Dave installed light floral wallpaper above the existing wainscoting, which they painted a neutral shade of pink-beige (similar to Jitney by Farrow & Ball). Rattan wall sconces and new furniture add timeless elegance to the tranquil space.
