Original Craftsman homes were darker and closed off. As the style has adapted over the years, it maintains its love of woodworking, exposed beams and strong lines, but has adopted an open-concept layout and lighter colors. This expansive living room mixes dark wood beams with painted white tongue-and-groove walls. Heat lamp-inspired pendants with exposed piping create an industrial vibe in the dining area.

This Atlanta townhouse has all the trappings of a great industrial design: exposed brick walls, paned window doors and an iron spiral staircase. To balance the gray-and-black palette, the butcher-block island is stained a dark brown. The bare-bulb pendant light fixture makes for a stripped spectacle over the island.
