Researching our women-owned home brands story was eye-opening. It reaffirmed a shopping goal that I have to shop smarter, shop smaller and support more businesses owned by women and people of color, helping foster more diversity in the home design world.

There are many Hispanic and Latino-owned home decor businesses at the top of my list. These designers and founders come from throughout Mexico and South and Central America, and many take inspiration from their indigenous origins or indigenous traditions of these places. Take a look at these brands below and start buying more products from Hispanic and Latino businesses, from pillows to prints to natural cleaning products, if you're not already.

Luna Sundara

Founded by Sandra Manay in 2014, Luna Sundara was created as a wellness brand with a focus on Peruvian aromatherapy oils and incense sourced from 100-percent sustainable botanicals. Today, the company includes eco-friendly home decor made by artisans in Peru, from hand-carved wood to handmade Chulucanan pottery.

Cuyana

"Fewer, better." That's Cuyana's mission. The clothing and accessories brand co-founded by Ecuadorian-American Karla Gallardo puts quality over quantity with an emphasis on wardrobe basics, textiles and leather goods that will last. The brand even features a Zero Waste Collection made from scraps of unused leather and fabric. The leather goods are LWG Gold certified, which means the leather is tanned responsibly. You can even add a personalized monogram for gifting.

Hedley & Bennett

Mexican-American Ellen Marie Bennett noticed a big problem in the restaurant industry: Chef aprons couldn't withstand the kitchen. And thus Hedley & Bennett was born. The apron brand specializes in sturdy, tough aprons and smocks in fun fabrics and with pockets galore. The line recently expanded to other kitchenwares such as potholders and market totes. And H&B just dropped an apron collab with Love Shack Fancy featuring the brand's whimsical, fun floral prints.

The Honest Company

What started as eco-friendly diapers at Target has exploded into an empire of natural home products. Today, The Honest Company — co-founded by actress Jessica Alba — includes makeup, bedding and even kids' clothing. What's really earned the brand a cult following is the line of home cleaning products, from laundry detergent to alcohol wipes. The three-in-one disinfecting spray is by far the most popular with a solution that cleans, deodorizes and disinfects surfaces.

Vivid Vidal

If you're looking to shake up your walls with inspiring, colorful art, look no further than Etsy shop Vivid Vidal. Afro-Latina painter and digital illustrator Stephanie Vidal has several original prints for sale with most featuring women of color in "poses of power, full of vibrant color." The artwork is bold and uplifting, and there's infectious confidence about these portraits.

Ceremonia

Set the table in style this summer with lovely handmade and handwoven accessories from Ceremonia. Founded by Carina Santoyo after an inspirational trip to Bali, the Latina maker works with local Balinese artisans to create home goods and wares, ranging from teak bowls to beaded chandeliers. What caught our eye is the collection of woven placemats and coasters such as these black fringe raffia coasters.

OF Boutique

You can't talk about Hispanic or Latino home design without mentioning Mexican textiles and fabric crafts. It's a whole design world itself, from ornate Otomi animal patterns to colorful Mexican pom-poms. And instead of buying Mexican-inspired linens from big box stores, you can shop directly from Mexican and Mexican-American makers on Etsy. It's the second-best thing to traveling to Mexico and wandering artisan markets. One Etsy shop that caught our eye is OF Boutique. There are tons of beautiful, handmade tablecloths, table runners, placemats and more. There are even a couple of handmade bedspreads with tassels!

Mandana Blvd.

Cristina Ramos along with her partner Nu Goteh founded Mandana Blvd.. while furnishing their own home in San Francisco and looking for the perfect vintage and flea market pieces. If you love thrifting, you have to check out the online store, which specializes in boho and midcentury modern styles.

Shop Latinx

What started as an Instagram account to promote and curate Latinx artisans has exploded into one of the largest online marketplaces for Latinx products. Brittany Chavez's brand Shop Latinx is part store, part community and part editorial with items ranging from fashion to kitchenware.

Portfolio Pet

Calling all dog parents. If Portfolio Pet isn't on your radar, it should be. The Latina-run pet startup features tons of great gifts for pet lovers, from custom portraits to sticker sheets!
