Newcomers to Love It or List It could be forgiven for thinking Hilary Farr and David Visentin are a couple (though their pairing has always been platonic): Their weekly competitions — and their friendship — crackle with chemistry. In fact, the way they dish out affectionate criticism reminds us of the relationships we have with our own besties.

Yes, Hilary thinks back fondly of times David has given her side eye. She’s comfortable in that shade.

She’s also fine and dandy with his straight-up stealing her crown — in this case, part of her evil-queen costume when he came to support her at a Toronto stage production of Sleeping Beauty. Who knew jewelry theft (and a subsequent selfie) could be so heartwarming?

His victory dance when he finds an advantage on Love It or List It — not quite so supportive, but mighty entertaining.

You know you’ve got a good sparring partner when you actively look forward to the next round of battle.

If behind-the-scenes shoots are any indication, they’re as copacetic once the cameras are off as they are crabby when they’re rolling.

Health-nut David even brings his cohost virtuous bouquets. Roses are grand, of course, but they're a lousy source of iron.

In the years since, they’ve gotten positively cozy with each other’s...quirks.
