Great First Impression

Visitors to HGTV Smart Home 2020 are greeted by eight-foot-tall, four-lite double entry doors that open to reveal an impressive two-story foyer.

Easy Access

From the double front doors, visitors have easy access to the main living areas of the home, including the dining room, study, great room and kitchen. The flooring in the entry — like many spaces in the home — is luxury vinyl tile that is 100% waterproof and easy to clean, so if anyone tracks in mud it’s no big deal to wipe it up.

Foyer Chandelier

Designer Tiffany Brooks had HGTV’s J. Pickens create a light fixture and sculpture that represents Pittsburgh’s past and future. This steampunk-inspired piece is a nod to the city’s industrial past and its current reputation as a modern art hub.

Statement Piece

A closer look at this statement light fixture from the home’s second-floor landing shows the machine parts and gears that make up this ode-to-Pittsburgh piece. “It’s a representation of machine parts, which kind of speaks to the past, and bicycle gears, which speaks to where they are now,” says designer Tiffany Brooks. “They’re slowly becoming one of the healthiest cities in America.”

Stay Safe

Right by the double entry doors sits a touch-to-wake keypad for the home’s customizable security system. This top-notch system protects the home indoors and out, and gives homeowners the ability to control the system using a smartphone or computer.

Central Location

This look from inside the foyer shows how the space easily connects to the great room straight ahead, the kitchen and dining room to the right, and the stylish study to the left.

Steel-Pour Mural

Between the foyer and the great room, designer Tiffany Brooks added a mural, which was created as a tribute to Pittsburgh’s steel days. Not only does the mural add a touch of local historical flavor, it’s a great conversation piece.

Living Wall

The juxtaposition of the planter box full of greens in front of the black-and-white mural adds contrast and texture. “My hope is that one day the plants will grow up and just layer this beautiful background mural with these cool vintage sconces in there, and then the homeowners will just kind of love that little peaceful area of their house,” says designer Tiffany Brooks.

Color Contrast

With the kitchen area in view, you can see how the off-white walls offer dramatic contrast to the deep charcoal-gray walls and the historical mural.

Touch of Glam

Vintage-style elongated wall sconces with brass and alabaster feature LED sources that diffuse the light for a warm, even ambiance. These stylish sconces are part of HGTV Smart Home 2020’s overall lighting design that uses energy-efficient LED lights that consume up to 90% less power than incandescent bulbs.

Go Up or Down

The stairs that lead down to the basement and also up to the second floor of the home are located just beyond the foyer.
