Get to Know Jennifer Todryk, Host of HGTV's No Demo Reno
Jennifer Todryk, known as The Rambling Redhead to her Instagram followers and fans, is coming to HGTV! Here’s everything you need to know about her.
Jennifer Todryk’s soon-to-be HGTV stardom all started on Instagram — the irony of which isn’t lost on her. Back when she was 22, Jenn was hesitant to post pictures of the home she shared with her husband Mike on social media, because not many of her friends had pretty houses yet. “It felt like bragging,” she says, adding she was afraid of negativity on her page. But in the end, she took the plunge and just started doing it. Ten years down the road, production agents spotted her house on Instagram’s Discover page and HGTV’s new show No Demo Reno — starring Jenn and premiering March 25 — was born.
So, besides flipping homes on HGTV (no reno required), who is Jennifer Todryk? She’s an Instagram content creator, a blogger, an author, a mom, an Enneagram personality 8w7, a lover of all things home design and so much more. We sat down with Jenn to get the full scoop, and here’s what we learned (spoiler alert: it’s all good vibes only).
She's Super Real on Instagram
Known as @TheRamblingRedhead to her 700K+ Instagram followers, there’s very little Jenn’s audience doesn't see of her chaotic, funny, endearing, charming life — which is fine by her! She’ll be the first to say: What you see is what you get. “I look out for my Instagram audience. They’re why I show up,” she says. I can personally attest to Jenn's authenticity. She answered my Zoom call from the closet of her beautiful home in North Dallas wearing a navy-blue sweatshirt and a huge smile. Her energy was electric, and her waist-length hair was flowing (“I haven’t even touched it today!” she assured me).
She’s a True Texan
Jenn was born and raised in Burleson, Texas, and attended college at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. She now resides in North Dallas with her husband, Mike, and her three kids.
Her Claim to Fame Is a Blog Post Gone Viral
Before Jenn’s Instagram took off, she was a stay-at-home mom turned blogger who spent her days writing humor essays about parenting as a way to connect with others and unwind. She officially launched Life as a Rambling Redhead in 2015 to, “my thirty family members,” she recalls with a laugh. Seven weeks in, her now-famous post Top 6 Wines That Pair Best With Your Child’s Crappy Behavior went viral.
She’s a Published Author
Soon after Jenn’s blog post went viral, she was approached by a publisher who wanted to expand on the idea of wine pairings for parents. Jenn, always a workhorse, didn’t hesitate to hop on the opportunity. Whine: 50 Perfect Wines to Pair With Your Child’s Rotten Behavior hit stores everywhere in 2017. “It sounds like a professional review, but it’s totally sarcastic,” Jenn says.
She Loves Being a Mom
Despite the sarcastic prose in her book, Jenn loves motherhood. Her and Mike's three kids, Von, 7, Berkley, 6, and 2-year-old Vivienne are crowd favorites on Instagram, and Jenn isn’t shy about sharing the good, the bad and the funny when it comes to parenting. Her favorite part about raising kids? “Getting to know each child for the person they are,” she says.
The Todryks Recently Added a Sixth Family Member
Nope, not another kid, an English Cream Golden Retriever named Gary. Follow him on Instagram at @garytodryk (there’s no such thing too much dog content on your feed, right?).
Fashion Was Her Original Love
Though she’s (obviously) a home design guru, her original love has always been fashion. She graduated from college with a degree in fashion merchandising and worked at Zara and Forever 21. She even interned in the fashion closet at Marie Claire. Ironically enough, her love of fashion also brought her to Mike, who wandered into Zara looking for a suit, but ended up asking Jenn out on a lunch date instead.
Jenn and Mike Own a Coffee Shop in Allen, Texas
The couple took over the shop two years ago, renovated it and christened it Armor Coffee Co.. The name is a nod to Psalm 91:4, the soldier’s prayer. “My husband is a vet of nine years, so the name was so important to us,” says Jenn.
She’s an Extrovert and a Huge Homebody
If you follow Jenn on Instagram, you know she isn’t shy — she loves being around people. “But I also love being trapped in my house,” she says. Even at home, Jenn knows how to stay busy (i.e. organizing, redecorating and just spending time with the fam).
She Can't Wait for No Reno Demo
Her favorite part of filming the show? "Seeing people’s reactions to their own home after the transformation was amazing," says Jenn. "People are in total, happy disbelief. It's the best feeling ever."
