Miami-Based Design Couple Competes For Clients in HGTV's New Show 'Divided by Design'
Fabulous home renovations come to life in Season 1 of Divided by Design, starring dueling designer couple Ray and Eilyn Jimenez. We have all the details.
As they run dueling design firms and bid against each other for clients in the red-hot Miami housing market, married interior designers Ray and Eilyn Jimenez use their professional rivalry to fuel their creativity in the new HGTV docu-series, Divided By Design.
What's Divided by Design About?
During the nine-episode season, Ray, who favors a modern eclectic approach, and Eilyn, who blends Old World influences with a timeless functional vibe, aim to wow potential clients with their distinct design aesthetics — knowing only one of them will close the deal and get a chance to deliver a remarkable transformation for the client.
“We do the exact same thing, but we don’t work together. We’re the competition,” says Ray. “But regardless of who wins a client, we’re here to support each other no matter what.”
“When clients reach out to both of us, we bid for the same jobs,” says Eilyn. “However, Ray and I have different design perspectives and approaches when it comes to each project. I wouldn’t want to be competing against anyone else besides my better half.”
Each episode will follow the winning designer’s process from beginning to end, resulting in stunning reveals encapsulating Miami style and flare. Alongside the primary design story, the duo also will check in on a high-end project, including the full gut renovation of their own home — which has taken far longer than originally planned.
What to Expect From Season 1
In episode one, Ray and Eilyn vie for a $150,000 renovation project to overhaul an entryway, kitchen, child’s bedroom and combo living-and-dining area. Homeowner David — both the client and the contractor — has a dark, masculine design style that conflicts with his wife Bella’s bright tropical vibe. The chosen designer will help Bella and David balance their contradictory wishes by combining rich wood tones with light and airy furniture pieces to create a spectacular space.
