Curved Color Blocks

HGTV editor Jackie McGilvray says she's "not a fan of the retro curved color blocks that we’ve been seeing the last few years. Yes, they are fun, and the colors are nice, but I’m glad to see them go because the style is very limited, and it is such a design commitment. You can’t really add a just touch of this look, it’s either all or nothing. The patterns and hues are nice to look at, but I think we should save them for ski jackets and T-shirts, or maybe a kids’ basement playroom."

Step Away From the Extremes

"Maximalism resurged in recent years as a response to minimalism, but I think I've had enough of both. Rather than extremes, I'm ready for balance. There's no need to get rid of all decoration and contrast and be completely minimalist, but also no reason to go overboard with 10 patterns in a space and stuff everywhere. A good balanced design is comfortable and timeless" says senior HGTV editorial director, Kelly Smith Trimble.

White on White

HGTV editor Caroline Alkire says "this year, white on white on white needs to go. Don’t get me wrong, white works in almost any space — I personally love a cream-colored sofa — but white always needs a warm friend. In 2025, I plan on embracing pattern (plaid is on the top of my list); natural colors like olive greens and chocolate browns; and a little bit of maximalist energy."
