A wasted cubby under the stairs became a cool play area for Jasmine's daughter, Hazel. Jasmine installed custom built-in shelving, which displays books as well as Hazel's prettier toys (like her dollhouse). The lower cabinetry hides clutterful items. With durable fabric on the sofa, easy-to-clean porcelain tile floors and a larger-than-life word search game on the wall, the rest of the room is kid-friendly, too.

There's a reason Jonathan Knight's HGTV show is called Farmhouse Fixer. It's because he does just that — fixes farmhouses.
