Chandeliers Dress Up Dining Area in Neutral Contemporary Kitchen
The homeowners, longtime friends and clients of Antonio Pippo, sought to downsize from their previous Armonk home to a 1901 shingle-style house in downtown Greenwich. Despite the house needing a complete renovation down to the foundation, they were confident in Antonio's expertise. The open-concept kitchen was designed in collaboration with Christopher Peacock, seamlessly integrating with the adjoining dining and living areas to create a cohesive, layered look for the entire space. Tasked with achieving a Ralph Lauren-inspired aesthetic, Antonio expanded on this concept by incorporating antiques and textures reflecting the homeowners’ unique tastes, particularly their love for New Orleans' style, where their daughter attends Tulane. The kitchen features two large-scale chandeliers over the table, providing a chic, relaxed focal point against the natural wood tones. The appliances and amenities are understated, making the kitchen feel like a warm extension of the living space. A beloved portrait collection is displayed above the stove, adding a personal touch. The kitchen island is a standout element. Unlike the trend of oversized islands, this fully functional and practical island does not distract from the rest of the design. The decision to forego seating around the island allows the kitchen table, complemented by vintage chandeliers, to become a commanding design moment. Sourcing matching antique chandeliers was a significant challenge. The selected pair from New Orleans perfectly balances the dramatic backsplash and vintage art collection. The combination of modern colors and warm textures with the formal chandeliers creates an edgy yet relaxed look. This kitchen exudes warmth and texture, making it feel more like an inviting living space than a typical kitchen. The layers of texture, from corduroy dining chairs to oak planks, bring a relaxed balance to the collection of art and antiques, enhancing the overall comfort and style.
