Tested by Rebecca Norris and HGTV Editors

We’ve tested and reviewed all kinds of sheets, from cotton to linen to silk, and one brand that stands out as an editor-tested favorite and popular brand among our readers is Brooklinen. Brooklinen is a premium bedding brand without a premium price tag. While Brooklinen sheets are still an investment (with full sets starting at $139), they’re considerably cheaper than many other luxury bedding brands. The reason? Brooklinen prides itself on removing unnecessary costs from the supply chain to offer shoppers high-quality, affordable bed and bath linens. The direct-to-consumer brand primarily sells on its website, though some products are available on Amazon, too. While you may have heard of Brooklinen sheets, the brand now sells six different types of sheets, and it can be tricky to know which set to choose. To help you decide which set would be best for your bed, we tested and compared all six of the sheet sets Brooklinen offers to evaluate which sets are best for which types of sleepers and different needs.

How We Tested

To find the best Brooklinen sheets, we tested all six of the brand’s sets: the Classic Cotton Percale Sheets, Luxe Cotton Sateen Sheets, Washed Linen Sheets, Brushed Flannel Sheets, Organic Cotton Sheets and Heathered Cashmere Sheets. We evaluated how the sheets arrived, how they fared after a spin in the wash and how comfortable they were to sleep on night after night. During testing, we paid close attention to weave, durability, breathability and the overall design of the sheets. In doing so, we were able to categorize the sheets by optimal use. Keep reading to uncover which Brooklinen sheets are best for you.

What We Like
  1. Crisp to the touch
  2. "Long” and “short” tags for easy changing
  3. Sold in over a dozen colors
What We Don't Like
  1. Colors sell out quickly due to popularity

The Brooklinen Classic Percale Sheets are some of the most popular sheets on the Internet. The 270-thread count sheets are soft, crisp and cool, making it obvious why over 12,000 shoppers have awarded them a rave 5-star review. While $139 is undoubtedly an investment when it comes to sheets, we found that the bed linens feel so fantastic and perform impressively well in the wash, that they’re well worth the splurge. The breathable percale weave means these cotton sheets feel crisp and lightweight and are ideal for normal to hot sleepers. Just keep in mind that these sheets are wrinkle-prone, so it's important to pull them out of the dryer as soon as it buzzes, otherwise, you risk the need to iron. (Rest assured: These fan-favorite sheets can be ironed on low heat if need be.)

What We Don't Like
  1. Colors sell out quickly due to popularity

If you love the rich feel of sleeping on crisp hotel sheets, treat yourself to that indulgence at home with the Brooklinen Luxe Cotton Sateen Sheets. The silky-soft, 480-thread count sheets have a subtle sheen, giving them an especially luxurious look and feel. During our testing, we were particularly impressed by how crisp and cool the sheets feel to the touch. Another thing we love about these sheets (and all Brooklinen sheets, for that matter)? They feature convenient “short” and “long” labels to make changing your sheets a breeze.

  2. Sizes Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King
  3. Certifications OEKO-TEX Standard 100

Brooklinen
What We Like
  1. Gets softer with every wash
  2. Ultra-lightweight and breathable
  3. Secure envelope pillowcases
What We Don't Like
  1. Seasonal colors sell out fast
  2. Pricey compared to other Brooklinen sheets
  3. Relaxed, rumpled look (which might be a pro for some)

Tired of waking up drenched? While all of Brooklinen’s sheets are revered for their breathability, the Washed Linen Sheets are the breeziest of the bunch. During our testing, we found that the Washed Linen Sheets were extremely breathable. They’re sold in six sizes and 14 colors, though they're so popular during spring and summer that it can be difficult to procure a seasonal set. One thing to keep in mind: The lightweight sheets, which have a 145 GSM rating, are designed to look cozy and lived-in, so if you’re not a fan of wrinkled sheets, you might want to steer clear of these bestsellers.

  1. GSM 145
  2. Sizes Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King
  3. Certifications OEKO-TEX Standard 100
  4. Material European flax linen

Brooklinen
What We Like
  1. Clearly labeled sides for easy bed-changing
  2. Cool, crisp design
What We Don't Like
  1. Wrinkle super easily; must be immediately taken out of the dryer
  2. Not the softest off the bat but soften with each wash

If you’re upgrading your linen closet to be more earth-friendly, be sure to check out the Brooklinen Organic Cotton Sheets. The crisp, cool bed linens are made with 270-thread count long-staple cotton in a percale weave that’s cozy to rest on. During our testing, we were impressed by how breathable they felt, though we weren’t super jazzed about how easily they wrinkle. If you prefer easy-care linens above all else, you’ll need to grab these out of the dryer ASAP or opt for another set altogether.

  1. Thread Count 270
  2. Sizes Full, Queen, King, California King
  3. Certifications OEKO-TEX Standard 100, GOTS
  4. Material Long-staple cotton

Brooklinen
What We Like
  1. Super soft
  2. Surprisingly lightweight
  3. Breathable and warm
What We Don't Like
  1. Limited color selection of primarily neutrals
  2. Pricey compared to other Brooklinen sheets

The Brooklinen Heathered Cashmere Sheets are like warm-weather flannel. They’re incredibly soft and fuzzy while also being shockingly lightweight. During our testing, we were surprised by just how breathable these cozy sheets are — we instantly understood why hundreds of shoppers have purchased and reviewed the pricey sheets. Speaking of, cashmere comes with a price. Still, considering how comfortable these sheets are — and how convenient they are to wash and swap out— we say they’re worth the investment, particularly if you’re always cold, no matter the time of year.

  1. GSM 125
  2. Sizes Full, Queen, King, California King
  3. Certifications OEKO-TEX Standard 100
  4. Material Cotton-cashmere blend
  5. Available Colors 6 - white, cream, fog, charcoal, soft camel, watercress
From $179
Brooklinen
What We Like
  1. Soft and warm
  2. Breathable despite being warm
  3. Envelope pillowcases
What We Don't Like
  1. Many colors/sizes sold out due to popularity
  2. Not available in non-heathered flannel options

The Brooklinen Brushed Flannel Sheets are the prime pick for cool weather. They’re soft and warm but breathable enough that you won’t start sweating in your sleep. These sheets are sold in five sizes and six colors, so they’re ready for purchase if you prefer ultra-warm bedding, live in a colder climate or if you want to shop ahead for fall and winter, which is smart if doable, as these warm sheets often sell out due to popularity in fall and winter.

  1. GSM 140
  2. Sizes Twin, Full, Queen, King, California King
  3. Certifications OEKO-TEX Standard 100
  4. Material Cotton flannel
  5. Available Colors: 6 - speckled black and white, speckled midnight, speckled moss, grey windowpane, tattersall check, gradient plaid

What to Consider Before Buying Brooklinen Sheets

  • Mattress Height: Brooklinen sheets are spacious in sizing, with depths that accommodate up to 16-inch mattresses. That said, if you have a pillow top or a topper on your bed, your mattress height may be incompatible with these sheets. To avoid dealing with a return (even though Brooklinen makes them easy with a 365-day policy), measure your mattress before purchase.
  • Material, Weave, Thread Count and GSM: Brooklinen offers cotton, linen and a cotton-cashmere blend for its materials. For cotton, the percale and sateen sheet sets are two of the most popular and the ones Brooklinen has offered the longest. Percale is a looser one-over-one-under weave that is cooling and breathable. Sateen is a tighter weave with more threads per square inch that feels silky to the touch but is less breathable than percale. You’ll notice that some Brooklinen Sheets have thread counts while others are characterized by GSM (or grams per square meter). The higher the thread count, the smoother and silkier the sheets will feel to the touch but the less breathable the material will be. The higher the GSM, the heavier and often more durable the fabric feels. Depending on the weave, a higher GSM can mean more warmth, too.
  • Care and Maintenance: Some Brooklinen sheets fare better after the wash than others. While we didn’t notice any shrinkage post-wash, we did witness notable wrinkles on the Percale Sheets, Organic Cotton Sheets and Linen Sheets. All of these sheets can be warm ironed, however, if you don’t want to bother with tedious maintenance or fast folding post-wash, you might be better off ordering the Luxe Sateen Sheets or Heathered Cashmere Sheets.
