Brother Vs. Brother, LA: Battle of the Bedroom Suites

In round 4 of Brother Vs. Brother, the Los Angeles edition, Drew and Jonathan each endeavor to design and create the ultimate bedroom suite, including some spectacular amenities. As the competition reaches fever pitch, guest judge Jasmine Roth of HGTV's Hidden Potential is on hand to choose the winner.

Pre-Game Analysis

A Quick Recap: In the current arc of HGTV's Brother Vs. Brother, Drew and Jonathan Scott each bought a house in LA's historic Hancock Park to renovate and flip for maximum profit — with the proceeds of both sales going to charity. Each round in the reno competition focuses on a particular space. This fourth round in the contest focuses on bedroom suites, including en suite baths, mega-closets and the like. The guest judge this time is Jasmine Roth.

The Honorable Judge Jasmine Roth

Height Differential Notwithstanding. Jasmine's noteworthy design savvy, discerning eye and creative expertise make her an ideal guest judge in this especially intense round of Brother vs Brother. The running score at the outset of this round is Jonathan: 2; Drew: 1 — with Jonathan having taken the first two rounds in the living room and kitchen challenges. Drew got back in the game with round 3 as the victor in the bonus-space challenge.

The Honorable Judge Jasmine Roth

Impeccable Design Cred. Guest judge Jasmine Roth is designer and star on two popular HGTV series Hidden Potential and Help! I Wrecked My House. "Jasmine's great," says Jonathan, "because she knows the construction side, the design side — and she's all about function."

The Team Jonathan Project

Each of the Brothers' bedroom suites are to be located on the upper floor of their respective project houses, and each renovation will also incorporate an en suite bath and walk-in closet.

Since the bedroom challenge will involve closet design, Jonathan does some shopping, considering some available options at Closet Solutions. Thus far, of his $2 million renovation budget, Jonathan has spent $714,000 on the living room, kitchen and dining room, and $218,000 on the bonus spaces, including the additional dwelling unit. His budget for the main bedroom renovation is $285,000.

The Team Jonathan Project

Work gets underway on a new phase of the renovation in Jonathan's project home. "I'm bitter from losing that last additional-dwelling-unit challenge to Drew," says Jonathan at the outset of this phase of his renovation, "but the losing stops here with my main bedroom suite."

Drew shops for marble for his master bathroom at Ollin Stone in Los Angeles. Drew purchased his project home for $2.35 million and thus far has spent 462,000 renovating the kitchen, parlor and dining room, and $395,000 on the bonus spaces. His budget for his main bedroom suite is $310,000.

The pre-renovation layout included a small bump-out for an upstairs kitchen, seen here at right. That space was a later add-on, not original to the house.
