A Romantic, Ultra-Feminine Home Outside Atlanta

This pretty Georgia home expresses the sensibility of its owner Mimi Tin and boasts the coolest view around, of a motion picture studio backlot.

Industrial Meets Feminine

Mimi Tin lives in the Pinewood Forest community south of Atlanta whose neighbor is Pinewood Studios where blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man, Black Panther and Spider-Man: Homecoming were shot. From her rooftop she can see the backlot where action scenes are shot. The Pinewood Forest development was conceived as a place where actors or executives working at Pinewood could live or rent. Mimi Tin's 1,280 square foot three-level home boasts two bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths and combines industrial touches like the exposed brick wall in her kitchen with chandeliers, white upholstered furniture, floral motifs and a decidedly feminine sensibility.

Ship Shape

Commanding a great corner lot, Mimi Tin's narrow and tall home, with its rooftop deck, has the look and feel of a ship. Mimi's previous home was a loft in downtown Atlanta but she says of her new Pinewood Forest home, "I like having my own space, but being in the middle of everything." This relatively new development outside of Atlanta features restaurants, a medical facility and a variety of amenities and options for residents.

Room to Roam

"I wanted a space where people could chat," says Mimi of her home's ground floor design, with the kitchen on one side open to the living room on the other end. An open steel staircase in the middle of the space continues the airy feel. Mimi found the chandelier in her kitchen in Paris.

Found Objects

The vintage Twenties-era brick in Mimi's home is from Chicago and was sliced into pieces to create the look of an exposed brick wall and add to the historic vibe in this otherwise thoroughly modern home.

Shot of Green

Mimi balances the white palette that defines her interior design with shots of green in living walls and a beautiful kitchen table centerpiece featuring succulents in a faux bois container.

Fresh Palette

Mimi chose a neutral, clean palette of shades of white to lend her home design cohesion and to keep it from not competing with the unique architectural touches in the home itself. Pretty without being fussy, the comfy chenille sofa, cozy throw pillows and fluffy rug invite guests in.

Gallery Wall With a Theme

This small gallery wall in Mimi's living room offers a kind of Cliff Notes to her personal style, combining floral and moss elements; shades of white; salvaged, vintage materials and a romantic, feminine theme that continues throughout her Georgia home.

Tall Tale

Mimi's home is only 13 feet wide and 1,280 square feet but feels open and airy thanks to Mimi's reliance on pared-back furnishings, clean shades of white, light wood floors and a multitude of windows.

The Long View

"It was more fun to design a smaller space" says Mimi of a home that "I felt was the right size for me." Mimi's pink folding Dahon bike can be seen under her staircase.

Guest Bath

Mirrors and chandeliers are two ways that Mimi brings light into her home, makes her space feel bigger and lends a French provincial feel as in this small but charming downstairs powder room.

Nature Meets Culture

Homeowner Mimi Tin created this "living" wall using dried moss affixed to canvas which occupies the landing between her master and guest bedroom. "I love bringing the outdoors in" says Mimi. "It makes the space more ethereal."

Antique Touches

A lamp base made from a metal gear and a burlap throw pillow made by Mimi and accented with a vintage phone demonstrates Mimi's characteristic mix of modern and old fashioned in this guest bedroom.

Up on the Roof

Mimi has created a private garden sanctuary on the roof of her home featuring two daybeds and an array of trees and plants including lemon trees, tea olive, potato vine, creeping Jenny and gardenias, many of which were purposefully chosen to lend fragrance to her rooftop garden.

Movie Backlot

Mimi Tin has a view of Pinewood Atlanta Studio's backlot where Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man have been shot. She can often see films being shot from her rooftop perch. "There would be some mild explosions throughout the week," says Mimi, matter of factly of the Avengers: Endgame shoot.

Cool Down

Potted lemon trees and other foliage add lushness and some necessary shade to Mimi's rooftop garden.

Home As Journey

Mimi Tin's family is originally from Burma and travel is built in to her experience of home. She draws design influences from the English countryside "one of my favorite places to go" she says, as well as France and says of key details of her rooftop garden like her fruit trees, "lemon trees take you on a journey."

Industrial Touches

An open staircase with metal banister lend modern sophistication to this home. Though it's located in rural Fayetteville, Georgia, outside Atlanta, the mixed-use Pinewood Forest community attracts a fair number of creatives, including designers, actors and film industry types.

View to a Thrill

The staircase leading to the third-story roof deck is defined by a gorgeous chandelier, one of many in Mimi's home. She assembled this chandelier herself, though she laughs that the fact that the directions were in Spanish made it a challenging project.

Statement Light

Chandeliers are a constant throughout Mimi's home and give the space its airy, French, feminine feel. But the one in her master is especially eye-catching and modern. Windows on two sides of the room add to the room's open, opulent feel.

A Dramatic Vignette

The fireplace perched in the corner of Mimi's bedroom is a former movie prop from a Charleston, South Carolina film set. The cascade of faux-plant materials continues a motif of the outdoors-inside in her home. "I like feeling like I'm in a garden" says Mimi.

At Peace

By sticking to a minimal, white color palette Tin creates not just a feeling of continuity from room to room, but a restful quality. "My life is so chaotic," says the graphic artist and owner of two product lines, Sushiami and BeLOVED Life, "I wanted a place where I could relax." Says Mimi of her home in the Pinewood Forest development outside Atlanta, "you feel peaceful here."
