Longtime HGTV host Tarek El Moussa and his wife Heather Rae El Moussa (The Flipping El Moussas) welcomed their first baby boy on January 31. After spending a couple weeks in their own “bubble,” as Heather called it, the couple took to Instagram to announce his name.

"We’d like to introduce Tristan Jay El Moussa to the world,” Heather captioned the post. “6:55 a.m. January 31, 2023, 7 pounds and 7 ounces."

There's a sweet meaning behind the name. According to Heather, Tarek was supposed to be called Tristan. As well, “Jay is my dad's middle name,” Heather wrote on Instagram. “Four generations of Jay.”

Heather has been very open about her pregnancy journey — including her IVF treatments — so it’s not surprising she’s just as open about Tristan’s somewhat scary birth story.

“We were at my final doctor appointment and our doctor rushed us to the hospital to get monitored because Tristan’s movements had slowed down. I was four days past his due date,” Heather shared on Instagram.

After several hours in labor, Heather started pushing — but Tristan’s heart rate began dropping. “My doctor told me that we had to get him out right away,” wrote Heather. “I had four more pushes to give it my all, and she was going to use a vacuum to help get him out fast or otherwise we would have to do an emergency C-section.”

In the end, Tristan arrived happy and healthy, joining El Moussa step-siblings Taylor, 12, and Brayden, 7. “It was scary but beautiful, and I had the best support from Tarek, my incredible doctor Lisa Karamardian and all the nurses at Hoag,” wrote Heather.

"Life with a new baby is so crazy but we're loving every minute of it," Tarek tells HGTV. "Getting to see Heather and the kids with Tristan is so special, and Heather is the most amazing mother. I still can’t believe he’s finally here! We thought long and hard about his name and decided on Tristan Jay El Moussa. His initials are the same as mine, TEM, so he truly is a mini me. We are so in love with him."
